Direct flights between Tokyo and Perth on sale

Bookings for All Nippon Airways’ new daily direct flight between Perth and Tokyo are now on sale. The airline will operate daily services on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which has a total of 184 seats including 32 business class seats, 14 premium economy seats and 138 economy seats. The introduction of the new service makes Perth only the second Australian city served by ANA, showing the airline’s commitment to the Western Australian tourism industry. Flights, commencing from September 1, will depart Tokyo (NRT) at 11am and arrive in Perth (PER) at 8.15pm. The aircraft will then depart from Perth at 9.45pm, to arrive in Tokyo at 8.25am the next morning. Promotional return ticket prices between Tokyo and Perth start from $861 for Economy, $1,561 for Premium Economy and $3,521 for Business Class, inclusive of taxes. Mandurah Crab Fest secures three-year funding deal

The State Government, through Tourism WA, has signed a three-year deal to fund the popular Mandurah Crab Fest until 2021. The festival, set on the foreshore of the Peel-Harvey Estuary, showcases Mandurah’s coastal lifestyle, culture and community to around 100,000 attendees. Named after the blue manna crab, which is native to Mandurah waters, the event features cooking demonstrations with chefs and celebrities, live music, market stalls, entertainment, free workshops, art displays and fireworks. The State Government is proud to support Mandurah Crab Fest through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, which is funded by Royalties for Regions. Djurandi Dreaming features on Destination WA

This weekend’s Destination WA program, which is supported by Tourism WA, will feature Djurandi Dreaming at Point Peron, Collie mountain biking with Hinterland Escapes, Rottnest Island, Caversham Wildlife Park and Paraburdoo. The Summer Series of Destination WA is also supported by regional tourism organisations Australia’s South West, North West, Coral Coast, Golden Outback and Destination Perth as well as local operators. Aboriginal tourism stories are supported through the State Government’s Aboriginal Tourism Development Program in partnership with WAITOC. The series airs in WA on Sundays at 5.30pm and nationally on Saturdays at 12.30pm on the Nine Network.

 

City of Perth Arts and Event Grants on offer

The City of Perth is calling for applications for its first round of Arts and Events funding for 2019/20. Applications for round one of the Arts Grant for 2019/20 (for events and projects held between August 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020), close on Tuesday February 19, 2019 at 4pm WST and is now open. Grants are offered in two categories – under $15,000 and $15,001-$40,000. Applications for round one of the Event Grant for 2019/20  (for events held between August 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020) close on Tuesday February 26, 2019 at 4pm WST (opens on 29 January). Grants are offered in two categories, under $15,000 and $15,001-$40,000. Program guidelines are available on the City of Perth website. Phase two of intrastate event campaign launches

Stage two of Tourism WA’s ‘Always On’ intrastate event campaign launches on February 17. The campaign has a focus on arts and cultural events in the South West, with the aim of educating WA people on the many arts and cultural events taking place in the State between March and August, and enticing them to take part. The events featured are Nannup Music Festival, Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival, Jazz by the Bay, Cabin Fever and CinefestOz. The campaign will be launched across various media channels, including native ads, a 12-page Weekend West lift out, Perth Now content feature, electronic direct mail features, social media ads and Facebook canvas ads. The campaign runs from February 17 to April 13, 2019.

 

Brits urged to discover original WA with Cathay Pacific

Tourism WA is partnering with Cathay Pacific in the UK to showcase WA’s unique landscapes in a digital cooperative campaign.  The campaign showcases the pristine nature and uncrowded coastal scenery awaiting visitors, and uses video, digital and social advertising to target an  affluent audience aged 50 years and over. A series of special airfares and retargeting activities are designed to drive bookings.

 

Marketing manager role available in Australia’s North West

Australia's North West Tourism (ANW), a regional tourism marketing organisation based in Broome, is looking for an experienced marketing manager. Registrations extended for free markets information event

February 14: Tourism operators are invited to attend Tourism WA’s free Markets Forum. The event will be held at the Aloft Perth in Rivervale, from 3.15pm to 6pm. Tourism WA Chairman Nathan Harding and Managing Director Brodie Carr will begin by sharing Tourism WA's 2019 priorities and focus. Tourism WA's Director of Markets, Kelsie Johnston, will then provide insights into international markets, including a panel Q&A session, followed by a networking function allowing tourism operators to connect with Tourism WA’s international market managers. Tea and coffee will be offered on arrival and cocktail food and beverages will be served during the networking session. Registrations now close on Monday, February 1. New workshop schedule for first half of 2019

Tourism Council WA has announced its new workshop schedule for the first half of 2019. The updated workshops will be visiting a range of destinations in the first half of 2019, including Broome, Busselton, Denmark, Geraldton, Kununurra, Margaret River and Perth. Register for Cruise Ready workshop in Busselton

March 19: Tourism WA will be supporting a Cruise Ready Workshop at the Busselton Visitor Centre, from 5.15pm to 7pm,to coincide with the scheduled cruise ship call by Cunard’s superliner Queen Elizabeth to Busselton the following day. Claire Nuthall, representing Abercrombie & Kent Australia’s cruise shipping division, will provide insights into successfully servicing the cruise market, covering a range of topics including meeting cruise line/passenger expectations, how cruise lines work in regards to shore excursions and optimising business and community benefits. February 19: To increase destination awareness in the Japanese market, Tourism WA is hosting key Japanese inbound tourism operators (ITO). During their visit, the ITO partners will take part in an industry forum at Hyatt Regency Perth on Tuesday February 19, from 9.30am-11.30am.
