Wine of the Weekend

Gran Feudo Reserva

Fall colours are all around and fall fare is on the dinner table. The season calls for more structured wines, which means we can return to a few of our favourites! One of our cool-weather staples is the Gran Feudo Reserva from Spain. The finely-tuned balance of fruit, tannin and spice makes it eternally sip-able on its own and a great match for the season’s cuisine.

Tasting Notes: A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo, Gran Feudo Reserva is brimming with red berry preserve, plum, vanilla, smoky notes and oak spices from 18 months in barrel. The tannins smoothly cross your palate and then bring a dusty grip through the lengthy finish.

Enjoy With: Roast beef or lamb, fall soups or stews, beef empanadas or charcuterie like Spanish jamón.

Style: A medium-bodied, fruity, dry red wine.

Terroir/Region: Gran Feudo makes its wines in the Navarra region of Spain, a very diverse region to say the least. Wines are typically blended following a similar formula to the Gran Feudo Reserva using classic Spanish grapes like Tempranillo or Garnacha and adding splashes of Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. These blended red wines are a specialty of the region.

Producer: The roots of Gran Feudo take us to the “La Cascajera” winery built in 1872. Since that time, the family has constantly modernised the winery with state-of-the-art technology to produce wines which, vintage after vintage, pick up awards and recognition for their excellent value for money.
