Tasting Notes: Lifted aromas of blackberry, plum, vanilla and black pepper are matched on the palate by dark berry notes, spice and dark chocolate. The tannins gain a soft, supple texture after 18 months in French and American oak, and the finish is long and smooth.
Enjoy With: Grilled steak, marinated pork chops, chicken with barbeque sauce and savoury noodle dishes. This is also a great wine for hard cheeses or as a delicious sip on its own.
Style: A soft, rich, full-bodied red wine.
Terroir/Region: The Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s most famed wine regions and home to many of the country’s modern wine-legends and those from the past making new waves, like Château Tanunda. The Château owns some of the oldest living vines in the world, including many ‘centurians’ (100 year-old vines) with some planted in 1850 and 1858 whose grapes are still used in their wines!
Producer: Recognizing Château Tanunda’s long history and envisioning its sustainable future is the job of the Gerber family, the Château’s owners of the past 20+ years. Under their stewardship, the winery now recycles 100% of its water and is powered entirely by renewable energy! They also look beyond their own vineyards by raising funds for coral reef restoration, even creating wines to raise awareness.
