Pick out the best leaders No images? Click here ![]() Together With Good morning. A few years ago, I committed to getting better at hiring leaders. I have made some great hires and some terrible hires. Through experience and research, I have honed the skills to identify the best candidates and, more importantly, weed out the candidates during the interview process that will not thrive.
Identifying the best candidates "Develop leaders to seize opportunities." That was the one-sentence job description my boss gave me to describe my role a few years ago. How do you develop leaders that are ready to tackle challenges and opportunities? The key, I've learned, is to hire leaders with the proper framework. Someone who is growth-minded, gritty (yes, that's a word), and has a baseline of emotional intelligence. The rest can be taught, but the pre-requisites are the foundation for success. These three interview questions will tell you all you need to know in making a hiring decision. Add them to your arsenal, and you won't be sorry. What did you do to prepare for this interview? Insights: This will highlight right away if the candidate can think critically to solve problems and gives a good sense of their grittiness. Did they mystery shop the community? Did they reach out to someone on LinkedIn who has worked there to learn about the culture? The most impressive candidates I have had the opportunity to hire put time into articulating how their talents can solve problems that I have or that similar organizations experience. What single project or task do you consider the most significant achievement in your professional career? Insights: This is a leading question that you can dive further into to determine how the candidate responded to hurdles and collaborated with other teams and individuals. Does the most outstanding achievement involve an individual contribution, or does it involve influencing and leading others? What is one thing you know to be true that few others agree with you on? Insights: I first learned about this question when reading Zero to One by Peter Thiel. It's brilliant because most candidates are ill-prepared to answer the question, and authenticity emerges. The answer you hear will give you clues to how growth-minded the candidate is and whether they dare to stand out from the crowd. How the candidate influences others based on their known truth will inform you about their emotional intelligence. These three interview questions will dig deep and challenge your candidates to uncover their true potential.
Together with Remedi Senior Care February is American Heart Month, and while Remedi SeniorCare is a pharmacy that's proud to deliver medications for the health and wellbeing of your residents, we believe that taking care of people goes beyond providing medications. Everything we do is led by remembering that the healthcare heroes and the seniors we mutually serve are at the heart of our work. This is why we're committed to being a partner in resident care, 24/7/365. This means investing in Consultant Pharmacists and Account Managers who become part of our customers' interdisciplinary teams. It means collaboration and communication to improve clinical, financial, and operational outcomes. It means providing resources, like our real-time web portal, MyRemedi®, and innovation, like PAXIT®, the 24-hour, unit-dose medication management system, that help nurses work smarter, not harder. It warms our hearts knowing that our innovation has touched the lives of so many people who are at the heart of long-term care. Especially in times like these, when facility teams deserve to know that their partners have their backs, 24/7/365. Gratitude Over the last few weeks, we have been on a journey of weaving gratitude into our culture through tasks and challenges. Last week we started a habit of sending thank you cards from the leadership team. The week before, we rolled up our sleeves and helped the care team make beds. This week we're going to roll up our sleeves again. Grab your leadership team for 30 minutes after lunch today, throw on those hairnets, and hop on the dish machine in the kitchen. You will have a blast with your team and volunteering to help with one of the dirtiest jobs in the community will send positive vibes through your community. Send us some photos of servant leadership in action and we will include them in next week's newsletter.
