Spring Seminar Series Announced

We are pleased to announce our spring 2015 Undergraduate Research Seminar Series! All seminars are open to undergraduate students, graduate students, postdocs, and faculty. Topics include:

  • How to get involved in undergraduate research
  • When do undergraduates need IRB
  • Responsible conduct of research
  • Crowdfunding your research idea through Volstarter
  • Using research for national scholarship and fellowship applications
  • Overview of research software available at UT
  • The library and undergraduate research
  • Creating interesting posters;
  • Presenting and engaging posters
  • Marketing your research (how to include it on your resume)

Research Flicks in Six - Share your research on Vine or Instagram, win food!

 

Involved in undergraduate research at UT? Prove it.

We are looking for 6-second videos about the awesome research you're doing. So tag your vids with #UgResearch and share them on Twitter with @Ugradresearch or on Facebook at UTK Undergraduate Research.

Participating students will be entered into a random drawing to win a $10 VolCard credit. The best video will receive a $30 VolCard credit and will be featured on our website and in other UT media!

Enter by December 5 to qualify for a gift card. (Don’t forget to get your mentor’s permission if you’re filming in their lab!) Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research.

12th TLSAMP Annual Research Conference, February 26-27, 2015

TLSAMP is looking for students interested in representing UT at the annual conference February 26-27, 2015 at Tennessee State University. Open to all UT STEM undergraduates.

Each year the Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (TLSAMP) Alliance hosts the TLSAMP Undergraduate Research Conference.  The purpose of this conference is to bring together students, faculty, staff, administrators, and professionals in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  The conference will provide academic stimulation and disseminate information to TLSAMP at large.  For more information and registration, visit tlsamp.utk.edu or email Erica Echols at eechols1@utk.edu. Deadline to register is Monday, December 8, 2014.

UT Materials Science Student takes first place

 

Christopher Hobbs, a senior in materials science and engineering at UT, took first place in his category at the 6th Annual LSU Undergraduate Research Conference (URC).  Hobbs took first place in the Technology & Engineering category, plus a monetary award, for the poster "Numerical Modeling and Furnace Augmentation for Improved Growth of Large-Diameter Scintillators." Congratulations Chris!
