FY2020 RESEARCH, EDUCATION, AND HEALTHCARE BUDGET

Coming a month late due to the government shutdown, President Trump's latest budget request was released on March 11, 2019 for Fiscal Year 2020. The available information is still limited, according to Lewis-Burke Associates, but they have provided a snapshot of what it looks like so far. "While the request proposes cuts to many of the non-defense federal agencies of interest to the research, education, and health communities...Congress is likely to reject most of the proposed budget cuts to these federal agencies, programs, and projects," Lewis-Burke says. The summary and analysis notes that the budget request "sets out two main priorities--increasing military spending and building a barrier on the U.S.-Mexico border." Included in the report is a graphic comparing the FY 2020 budget request to the FY 2019 budget request. According to L-B, "[E]verything is pretty much down, so comparing to FY 2019 wouldn’t tell much. The graphic therefore reflects the Administration’s prioritization rather than what they’re actually proposing relative to current funding."
