Pick of the Weekend

Wine of the Weekend

Bold Vine Old Vine Zinfandel 2013, Lodi, California

It’s the first long weekend of spring and you deserve to sleep in, but you won’t. The birds, the early light and FOMO on the first days of spring will be too much to bear. You might as well get up early and enjoy a trip to the market or your favourite foodie hang-out. Pick up some lamb, and a bottle of Bold Vine Old Vine Zinfandel and you won’t miss out on a thing.

Tasting Notes: Bold Vine Old Vine Zinfandel bursts on the nose with aromas of ripe black fruit, eucalyptus and spice. The palate is full-bodied, smooth and elegant with wonderful fruit-flavour intensity, soft tannins and bright cherry-like acidity.  This charming Zinfandel has a long, persistent finish laced with hints of sage and white pepper.

Enjoy With: Lamb, grilled red meat, roasted veggie lasagne or hamburgers.

Style: Full-bodied and smooth red wine.

Terroir/Region: Lodi is renowned for its ancient, low yielding Zinfandel vines which are planted in great concentration in the region.  The hot Mediterranean climate helps to fully ripen fruit here during the day, while the proximity to the cold waters of San Francisco Bay helps to moderate the evening temperatures.

Producer: Bold Vine Zinfandel is made by the Indelicato family, which has been making wine in California for nearly a century. The family’s strong work ethic and love for the land has manifested itself into one of the state’s most successful wine companies, Delicato Family Vineyards, who produce a wide range of quality wine from all over California.

Availability: Bold Vine Old Vine Zinfandel will be available through Vintages officially on Saturday, but check stores now as some locations have released the wine early.
