Wine of the Weekend

Palacio Del Burgo Crianza 2017

Should you be inside or outside right now? It’s summertime, so we are naturally drawn into parks and patios, and our winter-selves would be annoyed if we weren’t. But indoor attractions are slowly re-opening and with many Ontarians fully vaccinated, we can begin to (cautiously) visit each other indoors again. Whatever your plans are, make sure they include a bottle of the 2017 Palacio Del Burgo Crianza, a great red and fabulous value, whether inside or out!

Tasting Notes: Palacio del Burgo Crianza is 100% Tempranillo, with smooth tannins and a palate of cassis, red liquorice, toasted oak, vanilla and a lingering wisp of smoke.

Enjoy With: Red meats, cheeses, or both! Charcuterie and cheese boards, or burgers with smoky bacon and aged cheddar, are ideal pairings.

Style: A smooth, medium-bodied red wine.

Terroir/Region: Rioja, Spain is considered to be one of the finest wine regions in the world, with a long history to back it up. Winemaking in Rioja dates back to the 11th century BC, with big boosts coming from a few visitors. The arrival of the Ancient Romans (who brought the vine everywhere), quickly expanded early efforts, and the arrival of several Bordeaux winemakers in the late 1800s helped shape Rioja into the region it is today.

Producer: Burgo Viejo began when 6 farming families combined their efforts to achieve their dream of opening a winery. These families owned their own vineyards and were able to focus on growing the best grapes possible to create their wines. Today, their wines can be found on dinner tables from Japan to Denmark to yours!

Availability: The 2017 Palacio del Burgo Crianza will be available in the Vintages Section of your local LCBO and for online ordering on Saturday, July 24, but some stores may already have it on the shelf.
