What is Vapor Intrusion?

Vapor Intrusion (VI) is a contaminant exposure pathway resulting from the migration of volatile chemicals, such as petroleum and industrial solvents, from buried wastes, contaminated soil or groundwater into an overlying building with occupants. Vapor intrusion can also occur from natural sources such as radon. An unacceptable VI exposure occurs when contaminants are present in indoor air at concentrations that could cause a risk to human health through inhalation, and/or a risk to public safety through fire or explosion. Read more.

Congratulations to team members David Warwick and Derrick Lingle for being selected to present "Remedial Investigation and Remediation of the Former Marysville Power Plant Complex" at the 7th Annual AIPG Michigan Section Workshop in June. Envirologic New Hires

We would like to introduce you to our new team members. From left to right. Gary Blinkiewicz joined Envirologic this May as a Project Manger bringing over 24 years of multi-state environmental consulting and management experience with him. In April, we hired a talented Technical Editor, Shelbey Senkewitz, who hails from the University of Michigan. Finally, Mike Biar and Zach Curry, both Grand Valley State graduates, joined the team this March as a Project Geologist and a Project Scientist, respectively. Read more.

 
MDEQ Rescinds Vapor Intrusion Screening Values

In June the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) issued a bulletin that rescinded Attachment D of the 2013 Guidance Document for the Vapor Intrusion (VI) Pathway. The guidance document provides a thorough discussion of the VI pathway and presents procedures for conducting investigations and mitigation activities at sites with known or potential VI issues. Read more.

 
Grant and Incentive Programs

EPA Assessment Grants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency selected 172 communities and organizations across the country, including Calhoun County, Genesee County, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (Bloomingdale Township), St. Clair County and Tuscola County in Michigan, to receive funding for brownfields revitalization. Michigan received five of the 172 awarded grants totaling $2,352,000! Congratulations to our friends and clients in St. Clair County who were awarded $400,000.
