WA supports Aussie bid for women’s football World Cup

The State Government has thrown its support behind Australia's bid to host the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, the ultimate competition in international women's football. WA has signed up to be part of Australia's bid, as well as agreeing to host Australia's men's team, the Socceroos, for at least two matches in 2020 and 2021. The FIFA Women's World Cup, held every four years, will bring together the top 32 women's football nations of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The appointment of a host country is expected in May 2020. The State Government-sponsored Socceroos matches will include the Round 2 qualifying match against Kuwait, being held at Perth's rectangular stadium on March 26, 2020, as well as Round 3 - the final round of qualifiers - in 2021, possibly at Optus Stadium. Dreamtime 2019 a success in Perth

More than 100 international buyers from Japan, South Korea, Greater China, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and North America descended on Perth this week for Dreamtime 2019. The event was presented by Tourism Australia in partnership with the Perth Convention Bureau and showcased Perth as a dream destination for meetings incentives, conferences and events. Buyers had the chance to meet with Australian sellers, including a strong representation from WA. Buyers were also hosted on familiarisation tours of Perth and surrounds with representatives from Japan and New Zealand traveling to the  Margaret River region. Dreamtime 2019 is expected to generate millions of dollars' worth of future event business for the State. Read more on our corporate website.

 

Registrations open for World Indigenous Tourism Summit

Registrations are open for the World Indigenous Tourism Summit 2020, being held in Australia for the first time from April 6-9, 2020. Organised by the Western Australian Indigenous Tourism Operators Council (WAITOC) in partnership with the World Indigenous Tourism Alliance (WINTA), the WITS2020 conference will see delegates from across the globe descend on Perth to discuss the conference theme of “Tourism & Indigenous Earth Wisdom – Weaving the Future that Benefits All”. The Summit will provide an opportunity to hear from global leaders in their field. Tourism WA is the host sponsor for WITS2020.

 

Philausophy campaign update

Tourism Australia has released another industry video as part of its Come Live Our Philausophy campaign. The video features Darren ‘Capes’ Capewell from Wula Gura Nyinda Eco Cultural Adventures in Shark Bay, Western Australia. Over three years, the Philausophy campaign will invite the world Down Under to experience the unique Australian way of life. It is part of a deliberate move to elevate the strengths of Australia’s people, personality and way of life, which research shows is what appeals to visitors. The Ritz-Carlton gets US attention

The opening of Australia’s first ever purpose-built Ritz-Carlton hotel in Perth has caught the eye of US media. Tourism WA’s PR team secured coverage in Robb Report and Yahoo! Lifestyle, following a recent hosted media famil. Read the article here. TravelPulse and Medium also covered the opening of the hotel, making mention of Perth’s transformation and vibrant cultural and dining scene. The articles reached a potential audience of more than 34 million.

 

Registrations open for Ni Hao WA 2020

Tourism WA invites accredited WA operators to participate in Ni Hao WA 2020, held in Perth on Monday, March 9, 2020. Ni Hao, which means “hello” in Mandarin, will provide a cost-effective opportunity for WA tourism operators to meet and showcase their business to key agents from the Greater China (China and Hong Kong) region. For the first time at Ni Hao WA, Tourism WA will work with the Perth Convention Bureau to include Incentive Group agents to enable operators to develop their business in this sector. The event includes a sellers’ briefing, a B2B workshop and familiarisation tours of WA’s regions so visiting agents can have first-hand experience of all WA has to offer. 2020 Western Australian Heritage Awards

Nominations are open for the 2020 Western Australian Heritage Awards. The awards celebrate those working to promote heritage tourism and interpretation. Nominations in the heritage tourism category may be a walking tour, historic trail, festival, event, bed and breakfast, hotel, accommodation, cruise or performance. Visit the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage’s website to find out more, including information on the award categories and criteria as well as how to submit a nomination. Nominations close on Friday, December 13.

 

Applications for regional event funding close soon

Upcoming regional events could be eligible for a funding boost as part of Tourism WA's annual Regional Events Scheme. Event holders have until December 11 to submit their application for the 2020-21 funding round, which supports smaller and emerging regional events across the State. A total funding pool of $1 million is available, including a separate pool of $150,000 allocated to the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme (RAES). To be eligible for either scheme, events must be held between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021 with event holders able to make a funding submission for between $5,000 and $40,000. Tourism Council WA launches new Holiday in WA Campaign

Tourism Council WA launched a marketing campaign last month to promote Quality Tourism Accredited Businesses. The campaign, Holiday in WA, will prompt consumers to look for the Quality Tourism Accredited Business logo when planning their holidays, and to book directly with your business. A new Holiday in WA consumer website is being developed, where eligible Quality Tourism Accredited Businesses will be listed. Applications open for Marketing and PR Manager position

Australia’s Coral Coast is recruiting for a Marketing and PR Manager. The prime function of this position is the planning and execution of the region’s consumer, media and trade marketing activities in key domestic and international markets in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer. Register for Japan Roadshow

December 13: WA Japan Roadshow 2020 will take place in Japan between February 25 and 29, 2020. This premier trade event is an opportunity for WA tourism products and services to engage with key Japanese travel companies. There will be a range of events throughout the week, providing an opportunity to network and engage with wholesale planners, salespeople, major agencies, local travel agencies, MICE sales, online travel agencies and land operators in Tokyo and Osaka.
