Marketing Mistakes

—Mistake: Not focusing your strategy, message and communication style on the audiences you need to reach.

You know you’re craving salmon for dinner but aren’t certain about the best way to catch one. Attracting the right audiences is a lot like fishing for salmon. When there are more than 20,000 species of fish, you can’t just throw a net in a pond and hope to catch a sockeye.

Why not cast a wide net?
There are two approaches you can take to catch your salmon. Your first is to put a fisherman in every ocean, lake and stream, equipped with a net and hope they get lucky. You may catch a lot of fish, but it’s likely you’ll catch a lot of not-salmon. You’ll spend a lot of unnecessary time, effort and money for an underwhelming result.

Or, you can do some research first. Find out where salmon are likely to be and what kind of bait they are most attracted to. Then, go fishing—with the right bait, in the right spot.

Don’t waste your marketing budget
Instead of spreading your budget thin by dipping your net in every body of water, be where your audience is and know what they’re looking for. Then all you have to do is drop your well-baited line in the water and watch your business thrive.

Putting the right message, in front of the right people where they choose to take action is what Creative Company is all about. By focusing your message and placing it in the appropriate marketing channels, you’ll get a bigger return for your marketing investment.
