ASEE Profiles 2020 Open

Dear Colleagues,

The 2020 Profiles of Engineering and Engineering Technology is now open. The primary contact for your institution can begin the registration by logging into their https://survey.asee.org/ account and selecting "Registrations".

Once registration for the 2020 cycle is complete, the “2020 Four Year Survey” link and required Passcode will be available through the “Registrations” tab to all users from your institution. Please email any questions or issues to data@asee.org.

The full instructions and timeline are here: https://ira.asee.org/profiles-of-engineering-and-engineering-technology-instructions/

Changes to the data collected are explained here: https://ira.asee.org/changes-for-profiles-2020/

There are a few changes to the structure of the survey to help with ease of use. The excel sheets this year are pre-filled with the 2019 data (the department, program and erc names and other fields are filled in, but not the headcounts). We have moved several elements to the spreadsheet in order to more readily maintain the link between degree program (department, etc.) attributes and the total headcounts.

We would ask that you do not modify the actual tables of data sheets in any way (including the tab names), other than entering data. If you need to insert notes, please insert another worksheet with the notes (e.g. DEPARTMENT_notes). Changing the color of the tabs is fine, but our program processes the data based on an assumed structure -- insertion of notes or removal of rows will cause your spreadsheet to be processed incorrectly.

The COVID-19 section, funded by NSF-EEC Award # 1748840, is included in the online portion of the survey. The data from this section will be made available in aggregate form in reports as we move forward. It was developed in consultation with the Engineering Deans Council Data Committee, as well as our Data Collections National Advisory Board, based on inquiries we have had over the summer from different federal agencies, industry contacts, and institutions about the immediate and long-term effects of the pandemic on engineering education.

We are working on finalizing the spreadsheet submission system and will open it on November 15, 2020.

We are asking those of you who submit to US News ranking of engineering doctoral programs to submit the research expenditures for Profiles by January 15, 2021 so that we can compare and flag any discrepancies in data. We exchange submissions with US News when they close their collection. Institutions can revise the submission as well as submit other data points by January 31, 2021.

As we have in the past, and especially given the unpredictability of each day's events and the numerous difficulties this years, we will be able to work with institutions who need more time to submit data before the end of the survey cycle.

I hope this finds you and yours okay during these deeply uncertain times.

Take care,
Joe
