It’s fast approaching that time of year again when we need to ensure that you are on the correct Prescribed Investor Rates (PIRs) for the current tax year (ending 31 March 2014).

To assist you with this exercise, please click here to read a guide on how to calculate your PIR.

If you hold an indemnity income protection insurance plan, remember to include your premium in your tax return or advise your accountant. If you have not received a tax statement from your insurance company, please contact us and we will arrange for a copy to be sent to you.

If you hold a KiwiSaver Scheme, it's also a good time to start thinking about maximising your Member Tax Credits.

The KiwiSaver year ends on 30 June 2014. If you are 18 years or older and want to ensure you maximise your Member Tax Credit of $521.43 for the current KiwiSaver year, you need to have contributed $1,042.86 or more between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2014 (please note that employer and government contributions do not qualify for MTC).

If the sum of your contributions is less than $1,042.86 and you wish to maximise the MTC you receive from the Government, you still have time as the MTC claim will not be made until 1 July 2014. You may want to think about depositing some additional funds into your KiwiSaver Scheme account. You can do this by forwarding a cheque or by depositing directly with Inland Revenue.
