ASA-HC has hosted numerous events (and had a lot of fun) throughout 2019. Here’s just a small recap of the great year we had!
Voter turnout in the United States fluctuates in national elections. In recent elections, about 60% of the voting eligible population votes during presidential election years, and about 40% votes during midterm elections. In Texas, just under 60% turn out during presidential election years, and about 35% turn out during midterm elections. Since 2007, turnout for Constitutional voting years (odd-numbered years) has run at an average of 7.99% of registered voters, (5.79% of the voting-age population) fluctuating from a high of 11.34% in 2017 to a low of 5.37% in 2011.
2019 TURNOUT: According to the Texas Tribune, 12% of registered voters turned out to vote this year — the highest percentage since 2005, when it hit 17.97% of registered voters.

Andrews Myers named Number 2 Best Place to Work in Houston
On October 31, at a Mardi Gras-themed luncheon hosted by the Houston Business Journal, Houston companies learned where they rank as the best places to work in the city. Andrews Myers ranked No. 2 among mid-size companies with 50 to 99 employees. The annual list recognizes companies in the Houston area that demonstrate a positive company culture and employee appreciation. There were more than 100 companies honored at the event, ranked in order of scores based on employee engagement, benefits, corporate culture and amenities, among other criteria. Congratulations to Andrews Myers!
Paul Hoggatt retires after serving as President of Houston Masonry firm for 37 years
In October, locally owned Hoggatt LP announced long-time President/Owner Paul D. Hoggatt would be retiring from the business effective Oct. 31. Paul started working for his father’s construction company, Hoggatt Masonry, as a laborer in the summer of 1958. He worked each summer and, during the year, attended bricklaying apprentice school at night. Upon graduating high school, he started working full-time as a bricklayer and became a foreman within a few months, at just 18 years old. In 1972, Phinehas Hoggatt incorporated the company, taking three of his sons into the corporation — Paul being one of them. James Hoggatt became president of Hoggatt, Inc. and ran the business for 10 years until he decided to start a business of his own. At that time, Paul and his older brother,
John Hoggatt, decided Paul would become president and run the office while John ran the field work.
