We're bringing it back to basics

Some people might think that eating healthy is expensive and yes there are situations where it can be - but it doesn't have to be this way.

Your money is better spent on healthier, unprocessed foods than on health costs later on as a result of an unhealthy lifestyle.

After the popularity of our first Back to Basics recipe book we decided to partner with FOODcents once again to produce Back to Basics 2.

Check out the new recipes on our website to help you achieve a healthy diet and to save money on your grocery shop.

Do you eat more cake than fruit?

An Australian Health Survey (AHS) recently showed that 68 per cent of adults are eating biscuits and cakes daily and a dismal 1 in 14 are eating enough fruit and veg.

We all know it’s important to eat healthy and be active, but this new data reveals just how many of us struggle to achieve this healthier lifestyle while health services scramble to keep up with the increased rates of chronic diseases (including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and several cancers).

So, what else can do we do about it? Why not start by using the LiveLighter resources for more ideas and support. Try our healthy recipes full of fruit and veg and share them around with your friends, family and colleagues so we're all doing it together.

We need everyone to think about the variety of healthy choices we can all make everyday to commit to living lighter and healthier and to decrease the nation's health bill.

Are you RED-DY to Go Red for Women?

Did you know heart disease claims 27 female lives everyday?

The Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign raises the awareness of heart disease being the single biggest killer of Aussie women and that women are three times more likely to die from heart disease than from breast cancer.

Take part in the Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign during the month of June and have a red-hot time whilst raising money to help fight heart disease?  You can do this by dressing red, eating red, partying red! Anything goes as long as it’s red!

By doing so you might just help to save the life of one of the very important women in your life. For more ideas or to register visit goredforwomen.org.au

Are they different to calories? How many do I need? How do I count them?

This is a confusing topic for all of us and with so many 'experts' and fads out there it can be difficult to know what's right.

Even if you’re a professional in this area, counting kilojoules takes a lot of time and effort, so we've answered some of your common questions and simplified things a little for you here: LiveLighter's tips for counting kilojoules.
