Construction activities on the horizon

Additional traffic lane
In June, Fluor Corporation plans to begin constructing an additional traffic lane on the east side of Ferguson Road, running from FM 2147 to Fluor’s construction entrance. The total length of the additional lane will be a little less than a mile.

This summer, LCRA also plans to construct an additional lane on the west side of Ferguson Road from FM 2147 to Fluor’s construction entrance. LCRA mailed letters about the road-addition permit about a week ago to property owners who own land adjacent to the project. LCRA also will publish a local newspaper ad about the permit application, which LCRA is required to file under the Highland Lakes Watershed Ordinance. The ordinance is intended to protect water quality throughout the Highland Lakes region by managing the effects of stormwater runoff during construction activities.

The additional lanes are part of a comprehensive plan to minimize construction effects to the project’s neighbors. LCRA will provide updates through this e-newsletter on additional plans and activities as details are finalized. To learn more about the project, go to www.lcra.org/fergusonreplacement.

Fluor began preconstruction activities in spring 2012. The project schedule includes a two-year construction phase to bring the new power plant on-line in 2014.

New north gate entrance
Also in June, LCRA will begin building an entrance on the north side of the existing Thomas C. Ferguson Power Plant for current employees to access the plant while the new one is being constructed. Trees that were going to be in the way of this construction have been transplanted to other areas on the Ferguson property and some were transplanted directly across the road from the current entrance to the plant.

Open house recap
More than 50 people attended two open houses in May hosted by LCRA and Fluor in Horseshoe Bay and Marble Falls. Representatives from LCRA and Fluor visited with the public about the project schedule and answered questions. Click here to see some of the displays from the open houses that included artist renderings of the new plant.

Fluor will be building the new plant until early 2014. Its project team will work directly with Texas Workforce Solutions to fill some of the local hiring needs. Fluor expects to have a Human Resources representative on site in late June as potential construction hiring begins to ramp up and will provide a toll-free number that craft job seekers may call to inquire about employment opportunities at that time.
