sugru: the future needs fixing

This month we've seen you taking sugru into your workshops, out to your gardens and even up to the skies at 200 miles per hour!

Imagine a world where we don't have to rely only on cheap mass manufactured items, but can easily find affordable, locally produced products whose design takes into account our personal preferences.

There are loads of exciting developments in digital fabrication and new materials, and 3D printing in particular is laying down the foundations for an exciting future for manufacturing. So...

3D printing + sugru = precision rubber parts [+ awesomeness]

...we're super excited to see engineers and designers in the community starting to use sugru as a desktop manufacturing material to prototype, and to make parts on final products too!

We really want to support this kind of exploration, so we defined a project to test it out for ourselves: How to combine 3D printing and sugru to make the most awesome iphone protection ever. We're really quite pleased with how it went! If you think you can push this technique further, we're giving free sugru to the very best 3D printing + sugru ideas.

Prevent a kids bike from scratching the floor - sugru it!

It's great when kids can have as much freedom as possible to play and explore - let them run free by sugru-ing sharp edges, both on toys and furniture

"Our daughter Minna recently got one of these scooter bikes and we decided to let her use it indoors. But the bolts on the wheels scratched our wood floor, so sugru came to the rescue. Now, Minna is zooming around the house again and can casually sling her bike anywhere :)" — @Haumovie on sugru.com

Sort out the garden for summer!

With better weather finally here, are you sorting out the garden for a lovely summer ahead? Remember sugru can help with tricky little garden problems! Here's a few great projects we've seen recently - make waterproof and durable hooks where you need them, like on the side of your BBQ. Keep an old watering can going when the rose gets loose, or make a water fountain work better!

If you're out of sugru, grab a pack and have fun out there!

We're on the road again... to Bay Area Maker Faire - this weekend!

We're getting butterflies for our next trip to the greatest show (and tell) on earth - the Bay Area Maker Faire, this weekend! If you're in San Franciso or anywhere near, come along, it really is amazing! And if you fancy hanging out talking to awesome people about sugru, help us out on the sugru booth for a few hours! We can promise fun times, a weekend pass, nice people and lots of sugru!

Fix of the Month - Make a solar powered mobile phone charger

We all know the pain of running out of phone juice while out and about. Sure, you can buy those mobile chargers, but where's the fun in that, when you could make your own charger, that's powered by the sun! @algodelanada on sugru.com has used sugru to hold it all together neatly. This awesome project has inspired us to make our own version - watch out on the blog for more on that soon!

Fancy making your own? Get some sugru, and follow the full step by step guide here.

sugru'er of the month - Lauren, engineer and aerobatic pilot!

Lauren Richardson, 26, is one of the youngest and best aerobatic pilots in Britain. She's sponsored by GoPro and she mounts cameras on different parts of her plane to help her keep improving.

"As a competitive flyer I routinely find myself pulling +8g and pushing -4g in rapid succession, so as you can imagine it's quite a harsh environment. I tried 5 mounting options before sugru, and this is the first time I've achieved vibration free footage - and believe me this is a big deal - the sugru mod works a treat!" — Lauren, UK. Read more on this story over on the sugru blog.

For a chance to win Fix of the Month or sugru'er of the Month, just get some sugru, fix or make some stuff and send us some photos for a chance to win loads of sugru and a lovely t-shirt.

Keep on fixing. See you next month. — Jane
