The British Council's Connect ZA programme presents the second Innovate ZA, a 4-week programme of arts and technology events for young South Africans to develop their digital skills and explore new possibilities for technology in everyday life. There's also the chance for UK creatives to get involved with onedotzero's Cascade ZA programme; Forced Entertainment's Tim Etchells looks forward to the company's first visit to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and explains why now is the right time for them to be part of the Edinburgh Showcase in this blog post; and our Architecture, Design and Fashion team have launched an open call for exhibition proposals for the British Pavillion at the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale.

 
 

Man with a Movie Camera

The 6th Odessa International Film Festival took place in Ukraine last month. At this year's festival the British Council supported the large open-air screening of Dziga Vertov’s Man with a Movie Camera (1929) at the iconic Potemkin Stairs accompanied live by the Michael Nyman Band. Part documentary and part cinematic art, Man with a Movie Camera captures daily life in 1920s Odessa with a variety of complex and innovative camera shots. Watch a short film in which renowned UK composer Michael Nyman takes a tour of the iconic locations featured in the acclaimed documentary.

How Edinburgh sells UK theatre overseas

Selector Live: Young Fathers in Kiev

Mercury Prize award winning group Young Fathers played the Sentrum Club in central Kiev on 7 July as part of a Selector Live event in Ukraine. More UK acts are set to follow over the next few months with Ghostpoet lined up to perform in September. Rachel Howard, 'At Sea'

Novelist and journalist Will Self talks to leading British artist, Rachel Howard about her current exhibition At Sea at Jerwood Gallery. Her distinctive, abstract paintings have been globally recognised and are held in many prestigious international art collections. She paints a multitude of human experiences and emotions and, for this exhibition in Hastings, has created a significant body of new work.

The Selector wins Mixcloud Online Radio Awards

We are thrilled that The Selector won both Best Pop Music Radio Show and overall Best Online Music Radio Show at the 2015 Mixcloud Online Radio Awards last week. The awards celebrated 24 winners across a number of categories. In this week's Selector, Goldierocks chats to The Maccabees about their new album Marks To Prove It plus Just Her is In The Mix.

i-D: A History of British Style Tribes

British magazine, i-D, dedicated to fashion, music, art and youth culture, has created a new series of short films in collaboration with Channel 4 that explore British style tribes. The films look into the history of British music scenes and the styles that they subsequently produced ranging from Grime and Emo; Jungle and Cybergoth; Grunge and 90's style mags; Soul Boys and Casuals; and many more.
