Wine of the Weekend

Santa Julia + Chardonnay 2017

Even if you think that a little global warming might not be so bad for this weekend’s temperatures, sustainability and the environment have become a priority for many, especially in the wine world where the effects of climate change are closely followed. This week’s wine is the Santa Julia + Chardonnay.  The ‘+’ is the winery’s symbol noting sustainability, which has now carried past the Santa Julia + line and is a guiding factor in every wine Santa Julia makes.

Tasting Notes: 100% sustainably farmed Chardonnay shows ripe apple, pineapple and lemon flavours, with touches of butter and vanilla.

Enjoy With: The Santa Julia + Chardonnay can be easily paired with soft, creamy cheeses, roast chicken, pasta with cream sauce or seafood dishes.

Style: A full-bodied and elegant white wine.

Terroir/Region: Mendoza’s winemaking roots go back to the 1500s and since that time, it has evolved into one of the major winemaking centres of the world. Through harnessing the snow-melt of the nearby Andes mountains, this high-altitude, desert-like landscape was converted into lush vineyards which receive over 300 days of sunlight per year. This is ideal grape-growing country!

Producer: In 1982, Jose Alberto Zuccardi founded Bodegas Santa Julia, naming it after his only daughter. As the winery evolved and Julia herself joined the team, the focus became making quality wines as responsibly and naturally as possible. The first organic certifications came in 2004. Sustainable practices include farming techniques, energy and water conservation, making and using green fertilizers, maintaining biodiversity, in-house recycling and worker social welfare programs.

Availability: The Santa Julia + Chardonnay can be found year-round in the Argentina section of your local LCBO and is $2.00 off until April 29th! That’s another ‘+’ for this wine!
