At Nugget Markets, our artisan breads and many of our dinner rolls contain no preservatives, so here’s a tip to keep all the flavor without having to make a last-minute trip to the market: Freeze them! A few hours before you are ready to serve the meal, set the bread out to thaw and then pop it in a pre-heated oven (350° F) for several minutes to warm it up. Your bread will be nice and warm, and your guests will never guess you finished your holiday shopping days ahead of time. Baked Brie ExtraordinaireEvery year around the holidays, baked Brie becomes the talk of the town. But to be honest, I was ready to kick it to the curb until I tried this recipe. The oozy, garlicky, salty creaminess made me wish I’d dipped in a larger chunk of bread, or at least made a double batch. But you don’t have to take my word for it — make it yourself! We’ve even got all the ingredients you need, no hard work required. –Kaelynn Medbery, Specialty Cheese Let Us Do the Cooking for You!It’s almost that time of year again! We’ve prepared our menu for the holiday season and we want to make the holidays as stress free as possible, so this year, let us do the cooking for you! Place your order today for a Complete Holiday Meal from our kitchens. We have three options this year: Chef-prepared Turkey Breast (3 lbs., serves 4) with Turkey Gravy, Chef-prepared Ham (serves 8) with a Brown Sugar & Mustard Glaze, and a new option we’re very excited about — California-grown Whole Cooked Turkey (12–14 lbs., serves 8) with Turkey Gravy. All Nugget Markets Holiday Meals include Garlic Mashed Potatoes, Forest Mushroom & Walnut Stuffing, Gingered Sweet Potatoes, Green Beans with Olive Oil and Brandied Cranberries. Need a few sides to complete your Turkey Day? Feel free to order our chef-prepared side dishes a la carte. Wine and Food – Simple and DeliciousThis is always a busy time of year, and we want to make life easier for you! Wine pairings can seem complicated, but the idea is to have a wine with the proper weight and flavor profile to match the mood and the food. There is no exact science to pairing wine and food, but there are some pairings that will increase your chances for a good result. It is difficult at times, especially at the big holiday meals, because you have such a diversity of food and people. This year, we took a diverse group of Nugget associates and tested out some of our featured wines with the chef-prepared Holiday Meal offered through our Kitchen department. Although there was never 100% agreement on all the pairings (just like most families), there were some that worked for most of us. The Zardetto Prosecco was a great way to cleanse the palate before the meal and set the mood. It is light, low in alcohol and completely refreshing. $9.99, save $8 (750 ML bottle) The most universally liked white was the Chateau Ste. Michelle Riesling. It is also light, with good acidity and a touch of sweetness that went well with the yams. $6.99, save $2 (750 ML bottle) The Jadot Beaujolais is a nice lighter-style red that still worked with the turkey and especially the cranberry sauce. (Beaujolais Nouveau will be released the week of Thanksgiving, and that is always a treat.) $9.99, save $5 (750 ML bottle) For a heavier-bodied red, we liked the Perrin Cotes du Rhone. It has a nice pepper spice and herb flavors, which paired well with the herbs in the dressing and on the turkey. $8.99, save $3 (750 ML bottle) The Sparrow Hawk Pinot Noir is an excellent choice as well. And by the way, if you enjoy heavier-bodied whites and reds, we have terrific deals on them! $15.99, save $12 (750 ML bottle) As you plan your meals this holiday season, our stores’ onsite wine stewards will be glad to answer any questions you may have. Also, always remember the first rule of wine-and-food pairings: drink the wines you like with the foods you like — and if they work well together, that is just a bonus. Cheers! –Hank Beal, Director of Adult Beverage Save an additional 10% on these wines when you purchase our holiday meal. And if you buy 6 bottles or more you will also receive our 10% case discount. The Turducken: Discover Its Many LayersWhat goes into preparing our Fresh to Market Turducken? First off, what is a Turducken? A Turducken is a duck inside a chicken inside a turkey, filled with your choice of a signature stuffing. You can choose from any one of the following signature stuffings:
The process begins with semi-deboning the turkey and whole fryer chicken, leaving only the wings, drums and thighs. The turkey is laid open flat, seasoned and then filled with a layer of your choice of signature stuffing. This is followed by the chicken, another sprinkle of seasoning and more stuffing. Finally, the two Muscovy duck breasts are placed on top, followed by a final sprinkle of seasoning and layer of stuffing. Then we lace the turkey from head to toe, fill it with stuffing and top with a fresh vegetable sprinkle. This Nugget Market tradition is available in a full Turducken and a breast-only Turducken, or Turducken Roll. As a main course, the Turducken always makes an excellent conversation-starter. As with all holiday items, we ask that you give us a 48-hour lead time so we can prepare your order. Please place orders for Thanksgiving by Monday, November 21st. Any one of our meat specialists will be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding our Fresh to Market Turduckens or any other holiday items.
