FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD TO THE WONDERFUL LAND OF OZ!
If you haven’t heard, Gateway85 hosted an outstanding workshop on maximizing the benefits of the district’s state and federal opportunity zones last month at Eagle Rock Distributing Co. The event welcomed a standing room only crowd of more than 100, including developers, real estate professionals, County leaders, CID members and more for a networking event with Oktoberfest-themed food and prizes, followed by a formal presentation to hear about the area’s incentives. The presentation featured federal and state opportunity zone experts in Georgia, including: Holly Hunt (Holly.Hunt@dca.ga.gov.com) is with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA), and is a program manager for the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI), Georgia Agribusiness and Rural Jobs Act Programs (GARJA) and the liaison for the Federal Opportunity Zone program. Cherie Bennett (Cherie.Bennett@dca.ga.gov.com) is also with the Georgia DCA and serves as its program manager for the Community Finance Division’s Office of State Economic
Development. She also works with the Downtown Development Revolving Loan Fund Program, the Opportunity and Rural Zone Programs and the Tourism Development Act Program. Anna Twardy (ATwardy@mmmlaw.com), an associate in the OZ practice with Morris, Manning & Martin, focuses on federal tax credits, including low-income housing tax credits and opportunity zone funds.
Each presenter highlighted a feature of opportunity zones, including benefits, eligibility, application timeline and more. To learn more about OZs

HELP IMPROVE TRANSIT IN THE AREA:
ATTEND A GWINNETT COUNTY TRANSIT REVIEW COMMITTEE MEETING
Gwinnett is expected to be the largest county in the state by 2040 with a population of 1.35 million. With this much rapid growth, the County is in need of a detailed transit plan. In September, the County’s board of commissioners passed a resolution to create the Gwinnett County Transit Review Committee, a group of 13 citizens, who will advise them on how to expand transit in the County. The committee has reviewed the County’s transit needs, including the Connect Gwinnett Transit Plan and more. Now the Committee needs the community’s input! On Nov. 20, the committee
will thoroughly assess the previously analyzed transit scenarios from 6 to 8 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and we encourage you to attend and provide feedback! For meeting details, click here. To stay up-to-date on Gwinnett County Transit plans, sign-up for The Transit Bulletin.
