Wine of the Weekend: The Beachhouse Sauvignon Blanc 2017

The Beachhouse Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Toronto is swept up in blue and red these days – the Leafs and the Raptors are in the playoffs! It’s hard not to get caught up in the feeling that our teams are building towards something great, especially when you see the enthusiasm being shown in Maple Leaf Square (a.k.a. Jurassic Park). If your voice is raw from yelling at your TV and cheering on our boys, a glass of crisp, thirst-quenching Beachhouse Sauvignon Blanc may just do the trick to get you back to berating the referees.

Tasting Notes: The Beachhouse is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Western Cape region of South Africa.

Enjoy With: Seafood, sushi, grilled prawns, roast chicken, creamy pastas or as a social sipper.

Style: A light and refreshing palate teaser, packed with sunny, tropical passion fruit and pineapple, invigorated by a citrus twang and a lively lemon and lime surge on the dry, frisky finish.

Terroir/Region: The Western Cape region of South Africa is broken into several smaller districts, each with its own personality and winegrowing strengths. With very diverse soil types and several microclimates, blending these regions can create very well-rounded wines when done properly. These diverse landscapes also support the Cape Floral Kingdom, which has the highest known concentration of plant species in the world!

Producer: The Beachhouse is made by Douglas Green wines, one of the long-standing, modern wine companies in South Africa (the ‘older’ wineries can date back to the 1600s). Douglas Green himself started the company over 75 years ago with an extensive knowledge of the Cape’s wine regions, a great understanding of regional blending, and a unique ability to tune-in to consumer desires. His pioneering spirit is still alive and well in the winery’s current team and the wines they are making.

Availability: The Beachhouse Sauvignon Blanc is available year-round in the South Africa section of your local LCBO and is ready to drink as soon as it’s chilled. Grab one before April 29th and get $1.00 off the regular price!
