Update from ForeFlight
ForeFlight

Greetings!

The latest version of ForeFlight Mobile is now available for download in the App Store. This update - the second of the year - brings a more powerful mapping system with track up and north up orientations. Maps now fly on newer hardware and even perform better on the original iPad. See the new version in action in this video.

We also refreshed the iPhone app, providing pilots a choice between two menu styles: a "Slider" style, for those who prefer a way to quickly switch between views; and a "Grid" style, for those who prefer the Classic ForeFlight menu style that we introduced a few years back. The style is a selection in the app's Settings view - watch our iPhone video to learn more.

Other recent ForeFlight news includes the release of our Military Flight Bag extension for military aviators, ForeFlight's inclusion in Frontier Airlines Electronic Flight Bag program, and job opportunities in ForeFlight's Houston, TX office.

The ForeFlight teams are at full throttle and have great features awaiting departure. As always, thank you for your business and your support!

Blue Skies!

- Team ForeFlight

ForeFlight Mobile Update Available

The latest update of ForeFlight Mobile brings a greatly enhanced map system that will enable a broad range of new capabilities we will unlock over the coming year. Maps load faster, pan and zoom faster, and let you change between three new orientation modes: Track Up (Forward), Track Up (Center), and North Up. We think ForeFlight Mobile's new Track Up feature is the smoothest and most powerful available, and switching between orientations is fluid and fast. The new map system - called Altus - was developed by our friends at BA3 in close collaboration with ForeFlight developers.

Here's a link to the video if you want to jump straight to see the latest update in action:

Other capabilities you will notice with this update include full earth views; more advanced world-wide touch planning that includes the ability to plan everything from short hops to around the world, pole-crossing adventures; route labels that rotate with the map and automatically declutter; and world wide feature labels, making identification of cities, towns, lakes, and rivers easier than before.

Two new map layers are also now available. First, we added a new Obstacles layer, which displays obstacles from the FAA's Digital Obstacle Database. As you zoom in and out, obstacles quickly and elegantly appear or declutter. We also added a User Waypoints map layer option, which will load and display your personal user waypoints on top of any base map layer.

ForeFlight Mobile 4.9.1 is a free update for existing customers. Click here for instructions on updating to the latest version. This release also includes important bug fixes, and we recommend that all users update.

New Frontier

On Monday, Frontier Airlines announced that it has started the FAA-approved evaluation of iPads for use in all phases of flight. ForeFlight has partnered with Frontier in this effort and will provide Frontier pilots with ForeFlight Mobile for supplemental weather information and NOTAMs.

We are proud to be working with Frontier on this initiative. The blog post with the official announcement is here.

Military Flight Bag

A wide range of military pilots use ForeFlight Mobile for personal use. Last month, we announced our Military Flight Bag project, which allows authorized military aviators to load Department of Defense Digital Flight Information Publications ("D-FLIP") into ForeFlight Mobile.

Military aviators - at no charge - can download software utilities that package the D-FLIP publications into a compact database format that ForeFlight Mobile can read. If you are a military aviator and would like to obtain access to the software, please visit our Military Flight Bag page for instructions on getting started.

Jobs! ForeFlight is Expanding.

To help support ForeFlight's continued strong growth, we are looking to add two people to our team: a Java Server engineer, and a Marketing Coordinator that can handle a wide range of creative and marketing initiatives. These opportunities are in our Houston, TX office.

Visit our jobs page periodically to see what opportunities are available.
