Get the latest about the hotel quarantine system from AMA (WA) President Dr Andrew Miller.

 

“It is gross negligence," Dr Miller said. "Professor Weeramanthri recommended a raft of changes some time ago to the Government, urgent changes to do with the way that it’s run ... and in particular around ventilation.

 

"The resistance to adopting airborne protection has now resulted in innocent people being infected."

Bunbury Hospital at boiling point

WorkSafe is investigating concerns raised by the AMA (WA) to ascertain whether the employer (WA Country Health Service) is breaching compliance standards for employees working in clinical services at Bunbury Regional Hospital. 

 

This comes after the results of the AMA (WA) Bunbury Regional Hospital Clinical Engagement and Morale Survey were released last week. Fifty-six doctors completed the survey. Results revealed fear among doctors about raising concerns with management and other alarming issues.

Sticking up for General Practice as a specialty

GPs working at WA public hospitals are not remunerated as specialists, despite the fact they hold a specialist qualification acknowledged by the Australian Medical Council. Even after much negotiation, WA Health has not budged on this issue.

 

The AMA (WA) recently started proceedings in the Industrial Magistrates Court against WA Health over its failure to pay GPs as specialists. The AMA (WA) is seeking backpay, and prejudgement interest for the affected doctors, together with penalties against the employers. These doctors should be paid in accordance with the WA Health System – Medical Practitioners – AMA Industrial Agreement 2016. The AMA (WA) is committed to General Practice being recognised as a specialty.
