The top eight men's and nine of the top 10 women's T20 teams including Australia, India and England will be putting their skills to the test when Perth hosts the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup in 2020. The Men’s T20 World Cup, to be hosted at the new Perth Stadium, will be a week-long festival of cricket featuring nine of the world’s best teams and six matches throughout the opening week of the Super 12 Stage, including a blockbuster India vs South Africa match on the opening night of Super 12 Stage action on Saturday 24 October. India’s first match of the tournament will be broadcast in prime time to the huge Indian market. India vs South Africa will be one of the biggest matches of 2020. It was amongst the highlights of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 (CWC2015), when it was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in front of 86,876 fans – the second largest attendance of the CWC2015 behind only the final (93,013) and more than the opening match of CWC2015 between Australia and England also hosted at the MCG. A double header on Monday 26 October will feature Afghanistan and 2016 finalists England. Hosts Australia will compete against 2016 champions the West Indies as part of a blockbuster double header on Wednesday 28 October. Defending champions the West Indies will play a second match under lights on Friday 30 October. At the Women’s T20 World Cup, Perth will host a three-day festival of cricket at the WACA Ground featuring five matches and nine of the ten teams playing in the women’s tournament, including reigning champions and hosts, Australia. Perth is one of only four cities to secure Women’s T20 World Cup tournament matches, with Brisbane and Adelaide hosting warm-up fixtures only and Hobart not hosting any women’s matches. The State Government, through Tourism WA, successfully bid to host the matches that are expected to bring in tens of thousands of interstate and international visitors to Perth and showcase Perth to a global television audience. WA the focus of three national travel features this weekend

WA was featured in travel spreads in The Sunday Express, The Sunday Mirror and The Daily Star in the UK this weekend.  Travel Editor for The Express, Jane Memmler, was hosted on a press trip to WA in December, resulting in three full destination reviews focusing on Perth and the South West. In her features Jane extols the attractions of the State, providing a vivid description of her encounter with the wild dolphins in Rockingham and her whale spotting trip in Dunsborough. Jane finishes her feature by describing Perth as “…the sympathetic convergence of old and new and the world's best surf beaches minutes away, you'll wonder why you didn't go earlier.” The travel features have a combined estimated advertising value of $446,972 with a reach of almost 2million. Marie Claire was the latest UK publication to include WA on its travel hotlist, naming Perth as one of ‘6 cities you need to visit this year before everyone else does’.
