Wine of the Weekend

Nicolas Feuillatte Reserve Exclusive Brut Champagne

The last Wine of the Weekend for 2018 is an appropriate way to bid farewell to a great year of wine and welcome in 2-0-1-9! Our final recommendation this year will be a little over-budget, but for good reason. There is only one wine style worthy of ringing in the new year – Champagne – and the Nicolas Feuillatte Reserve Exclusive Brut Champagne is the ideal cork to pop as the clock strikes 12 on December 31.  So grab a bottle, gather family and friends and share a glass of the #1 Champagne in France!

Tasting Notes: Nicolas Feuillatte Reserve Exclusive Brut Champagne is a fresh and vibrant expression of the style. Juicy pear, apple, crunchy apricot and fresh bread all dance across your taste buds with delicate bubbles. An elegant mineral note mingles with the intense and expressive fruit, trailing off over a long finish.

Enjoy With: Appetizers like smoked salmon on toast, ripe cheeses, main dishes featuring seafood or roast poultry with vegetables, and also as a refreshing and delicious start to the new year!  It’s a very versatile food wine.

Style: A dry, crisp and elegant sparkling wine.

Terroir/Region: As the monks of the middle ages expanded their monasteries north from central France, they wanted to continue the tradition of making wine, but when they settled in Champagne, the climate was too cold to make good still wine. They soon found that their new home was perfect for making sparkling wine, so perfect that the style they created could not be matched anywhere else in the world, so it was named after its birthplace and voila – Champagne was born.

Producer: The Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne house was founded by the man himself - Nicolas Feuillatte, but after he met Henri Macquart, it expanded into one of the most important co-ops in Champagne. It became a place where growers can make wine together, instead of selling their grapes to one of the larger houses. The group of growers involved now totals more than 4500, bringing in grapes from all over the region and helping to create a high-quality wine encapsulating the flavours of the entire Champagne region.

Availability: Nicolas Feuillatte Reserve Exclusive Brut Champagne is available in the sparkling wine section of your local LCBO and will be in good stock through the holidays. If you pick up a bottle before January 5, you will receive 30 Air Miles. That’s a nice holiday bonus!
