Mobile and the Future of Health and Wellness

MEMS Executive Congress® US 2013
November 7-8, 2013
The Meritage Resort & Spa, Napa, CA
An annual executive forum promoting the commercialization of MEMS

Today’s advanced wireless devices, applications and services have captured the imagination of the public, and the benefits of “always on, always with you” connectivity are becoming increasingly apparent to medical professionals, caregivers and health care consumers. Wireless biometric and remote monitoring devices such as body-worn sensors, environmental sensors, medical implants and smartphone apps have significant potential to enhance preventative care, increase the efficacy and efficiency of medical solutions, and reduce health care costs while enabling consumers to more easily manage their own health. From breaking down geographic and economic boundaries, to streamlining clinical workflows while enhancing communication between patients and health care providers, digital health care solutions are quickly becoming an integrated element of today’s consumer lifestyle.

In his MEMS Executive Congress keynote, “Mobile and the Future of Health and Wellness,” Don Jones, vice president, global strategy and market development, Qualcomm Life, will explore the transformative power of mobile technology in the realization of digital health care.

“Medical-device companies and smartphone app developers are leveraging mobile technology to create consumer-friendly applications for wellness and fitness, care-in-place, and chronic disease management,” said Don Jones. “Today we have sensors that track sleep patterns and activity levels, ‘reimagined’ baby monitors that can be worn and put in the wash, and blood glucose meters that wirelessly connect to the iPhone. Tomorrow we will see biometric health sensors that look like temporary tattoos and rapid genomic sequencers packaged as hand-held devices. Supported by an increasingly rich mobile ecosystem, and an investment community eager to reap the rewards of this promising market, there are limitless possibilities for digital health care.”

MEMS Executive Congress attendees will get the chance to engage with Don during the Q&A immediately following his presentation.
