“Medical-device companies and smartphone app developers are leveraging mobile technology to create consumer-friendly applications for wellness and fitness, care-in-place, and chronic disease management,” said Don Jones. “Today we have sensors that track sleep patterns and activity levels, ‘reimagined’ baby monitors that can be worn and put in the wash, and blood glucose meters that wirelessly connect to the iPhone. Tomorrow we will see biometric health sensors that look like temporary tattoos and rapid genomic sequencers packaged as hand-held devices. Supported by an increasingly rich mobile ecosystem, and an investment community eager to reap the rewards of this promising market, there are limitless possibilities for digital health care.”
