Catalyst Youth Summit

Congratulations to all the Catalyst Youth Summit organisers and young delegates! What an exciting event it has been for everyone involved. Sixty multicultural young people from across WA came together last week for the three-day summit

The young delegates forged new friendships, networks and connections. They got to speak with politicans and key stakeholders and already ideas developed during the summit are being pursued.

Follow the hashtag #catalystyouthsummit here for more insight to the experience of the three days.

Sharing Stories Project

The award winning Sharing Stories Project has sadly been unsuccessful in acquiring new funding. The last day for this project will be Thursday the 31st of March, 2016. Sharing Stories has developed strong evidence-based rationale for projects with multicultural groups. Their understanding of how BBVs and sexual health issues impact on CaLD communities as well as their innovative approach to health promotion made them the go to people for guidance and support in this area, both WA and nationally. Successes of the project have included attending and performing at the 20th International AIDS Conference in 2014 and winning 12 awards and nominations like the national 2015 Settlement Innovation Award for Australian Migration and Settlement Awards.

Resources

OMI publications

The Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI) produces a range of publications to advise, educate and inform on subjects related to cultural diversity.

They have recently produced a fact sheet that highlights major demographic facts and trends, key issues of concern, and OMI initiatives that support culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) young people in Western Australia. They have also developed a publication which outlines the demographics and cultural backgrounds of culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) young people in Western Australia (WA), their settlement patterns, English proficiency and languages spoken at home, socioeconomic conditions, religious affiliation, marital status and living arrangements, and civic participation.
