In truth equality is one of the most significant and interesting issues facing not just the sporting world, but society as a whole. ‘YAs lead the way as Swansea14 Champions’.

Following the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games this summer, Europe’s finest Paralympic athletes will descend on Swansea for the 2014 IPC European Athletics Championships between the 18th and 23rd August.
These championships are by far the biggest sporting event to be hosted in Swansea, and are a great opportunity for YAs and Young Leaders to get involved.

Women & Girls

YAs impacting on Women & Girls Participation

Getting more women and girls involved in sport is a key priority for Sport Wales, and something that many Young Ambassadors have taken upon themselves to do something about. The recent School Sport Survey results revealed that only 36% of girls were hooked on sport, compared to 44% of boys.
Here are a couple of examples of the great work happening in Wales to get more young female participants hooked on sport….

Connor Laverty, YA Equality Champion & LGBT Ambassador

I’m Connor and I’m a 17 year old Gold Young Ambassador for Anglesey. I am an International athlete who was selected to be one of the Olympic torch bearers back in 2012 and carried the torch through  my hometown. I compete in the most ‘macho’ events in athletics, the shot put and discus, but I also happen to be gay. Last year I was also appointed as one of the YA equality champions.
