Volume 5: More Canadian Movies - and Introducing Up-and-Coming Producers
Featured in this edition: Airbud Entertainment, KarmaFilm, Startoon, Checkered Owl Media, and Angelb Productions. During the course of the 2018 Kidscreen Summit, the Shaw Rocket Fund is proudly showcasing Canadian production companies and their programs. These companies have worked diligently to produce content for our kids, and we're here to spread the news!
Airbud Entertainment- Two new releases in the popular Pup Star franchise on Netflix are coming soon:
- Pup Star: World Tour (the
third film in the franchise) will hit Netflix on May 5
- Pup Star: A Pup Star Christmas (the fourth film) will follow in December 2018
- Puppy Prep Academy, a new live-action TV series, is going into production in 2018 and is scheduled to air on the Disney Channel in the US in 2019
KarmaFilmGuardians Evolution Season 3 will premiere on APTN (Canada) this spring, and the team is preparing for Season 4 upon license renewal Guardians the series has sold to SBS Australia and Overdrive USA (distribution with HGagnon Distribution) Producers of Guardians have completed production of family feature film Brotherhood, starring Brendan Fletcher (Revenant) and Brendan Fehr, for release in fall 2018 The Truth About Monsters, a family
animated feature, is in development Producers have partnered with the 3D animation and VR/AR production team at Moppet Studios in India to offer competitive production services
Startoon - Tuff Pom and The Grim Repo Club were developed as part of Startoon, a talent show searching for Canada’s next cartoon superstar. They have become part of the properties in development with Wildseed Studios and Sonar Entertainment
Checkered Owl Media - Finding Fairies was released in February 2016 and it’s been on YouTube, TELUS Optik networks, and internationally on Amazon Prime ever since
- It has been featured at Zero Plus International Film Festival, Elche International Film Festival, and the HCCS Short Film Showcase
- The pilot episode for Afterlight, Checkered Owl’s next family project, is in post-production
- Bump Bump, a short film, is
in development and has received partial funding from the City of Grande Prairie
- Checkered Owl is in discussions to develop a half-hour kids show called The Story Quilt
Angelb Productions- Angel Berry was named one of the Top 25 Artists to Watch by the Alberta Foundation of the Arts; the youngest at 15
years old
- She received the Best Narrative Award at the Alberta Media Awards; the youngest in its 35-year history
- Angel Berry was nominated for several film festivals, including Action on Film
- Clouds is now on Amazon Prime
