Undergraduate Summer Research Internships

Staying on campus and conducting research in the summer alongside a faculty member is a great complment to your classroom experience. Here's what one student said about their summer experience:

“Undergraduate research has given me a community I belong to. It’s been an invaluable experience. I know so much more about my classes. I have more people as resources, and it makes me work harder.”

The Office of Undergraduate Research funds a summer internship program to promote research and creative activity among undergraduate students. Current full-time undergraduate students enrolled at the Knoxville campus are eligible to apply. Students graduating in May or August 2015 are not eligible.

The deadline to apply is February 13, 2015. For more information visit the Undergraduate Summer Research Internships page.

Did you know...?

There is an Undergraduate Research Fund in the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development?  You can designate any UT donations to that fund and help increase the number of students we are able to offer undergraduate internships and travel awards. To donate the fund visit VolsConnect here.  (Your donation will count towards participation in the Big Orange Family Campaign too!)

6th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium

The Undergraduate Research Students’ Association (URSA) will be hosting the 6th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 10th, 2015, in Hodges Library.

The Symposium provides a space for students to present their research to a general audience. The Symposium has room to accept one hundred abstracts.  Abstracts should be limited to no more than 250 words. Presentations at the Symposium will be limited to 15 minutes, typically 12 minutes for presentations, followed by 3 minutes for questions.

The deadline for students to submit proposals is March 6th, 2015.  Abstracts may be submitted at www.ursautk.org/submitabstract.

Posters at the Capitol

Eight students were chosen to represent UT Knoxville and will travel to Nashville February 25th with staff from the Office of Undergraduate Research to set up their posters in the Legislative Plaza, have lunch with legislators, meet Gov. Bill Haslam, and explain their various projects.
