Te Henga Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Te Henga Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2018

The signs are starting to point to summer winding down: the Ex is on in Toronto and back to school shopping has begun, but Mother Nature has not received the message. The sun is still blazing, which means we can still hit the beach, the park or the patio. Refreshment will still be necessary, and the season for drinking white wines never really ends. This week’s wine is a new addition to LCBO shelves and has already been keeping those in-the-know refreshed for the past few weeks. The 2018 Te Henga Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a well-priced thirst quencher sure to keep your summer going well past Labour Day.

Tasting Notes: Fresh and fruity, Te Henga is 100% New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc which sports lemon and lime citrus, ripe apple, tropical fruit and light grassy notes, all with zippy acidity and a clean finish.

Enjoy With: Mussels, shrimp and other seafood dishes, as well as summer salads and goat cheese.

Style: A dry, light-bodied, fresh white wine.

Terroir/Region: Sauvignon Blanc is New Zealand’s signature white grape and is widely planted in most major growing regions, but it is most closely associated with Marlborough where the soil and climatic conditions are perfectly suited for growing fruit with excellent intensity.  A long sunny growing season comprised of hot days and cold nights develops aromas and flavours in the grapes that are unique to Marlborough.

Producer: The Babich family has been making wine in New Zealand for over 100 years. The original vineyard and winery were established on the North Island by Josip Babich and his three brothers, and as new regions emerged, the family planted vines and built new wineries around the country.  Recognizing Marlborough’s potential, they planted vines in the region early, and in 2013 opened a state-of-the-art winery near Blenheim in the heart of the region.
