The European lighthouse cities Vienna, Munich and Lyon; the follower cities Santiago de Compostela, Sofia and Venice; and the observer cities Kiev and Yokohama come together in order to improve the quality of life of their citizens. Below you will find updates on the development of co-created and replicable Smart City solutions in 5 concrete areas– citizen engagement, district heating & renewable energy, holistic refurbishment, smart data and e-mobility. Smarter Together Shares Expertise at the Smart City World CongressFrom 14-16 November, Smarter Together joined more than 600 exhibitors, 17,000 visitors, and 400 experts to contribute to the fostering of smart city innovation, empowerment, digital transformation, and global impact. Lighthouse Projects Lead the Way to a Smarter Europe at #SCEWC1712 smart city projects covering almost 60 cities across Europe came together at the Smart City Expo in Barcelona from 14-16 November to show how cities are leading the way in driving sustainable and smart innovation. From Smarter Together Vienna Beat the Street: An Overwhelming Success in SimmeringOn 21 November, the closing ceremony of Beat the Street in Simmering confirmed its overwhelming success and positive spirit. From Smarter Together Munich Munich City Council Delegation Visits ViennaAt the end of October, a Munich delegation visited Vienna for discussions about European and international topics, also visiting the UN and Aspern, Vienna's 'lake district'. From Smarter Together Lyon A Field Visit to the Hikari BuildingOn 19 October, SPL Confluence Lyon welcomed its national, European and international partners from projects Lyon Smart Community , Next Building and Smarter Together. Upcoming Events 4-5 December - Brussels, Belgium This event, organized in Brussels, Belgium will center around replication techniques of cities within the Smarter Together project and beyond, focusing on actionable solutions and providing support in the replication process. Participatory Budgeting Webinar 06 December - Online The 1st webinar of the citizen focus action cluster of the EIP-SCC will focus on participatory budgeting, a form of inclusive democracy where community members learn, debate and deliberate about the allocation of public resources. Peer-to-Peer Knowledge Exchange Workshop 17-19 January - Munich, Germany The second Peer-to-Peer Knowledge Exchange Workshop organized by Smarter Together will seek to address the most important challenges and risks we share in the implementation projects across cities and thematic fields.
