Research for Material Expressions, a series of kinetic sculptures whose movement is triggered by biosensors.
Greetings from the studio! I'm looking forward to going to Montréal for the reception of my solo exhibition at Occurrence where I will be exhibiting digitally fabricated Jacquard tapestries, sculptures, and works on paper. A full-color exhibition catalog is available for pre-order. While in Montréal, I will also be attending the reception for the Material Turn group exhibition and symposium presentation. I'd love to see friends if you are in the area. I will be attending the reception TONIGHT for the Mirror Mirror exhibition (Newark) that includes selected data-driven sculptures from the Manifest series. The exhibition also includes work by Martha Wilson, William Kentridge, Faith Ringgold, Dread Scott, Patricia Piccinini, Hyphen-Labs, Paolo Cirio, E.V. Day, Nona Faustine, Ani Liu, Leah DeVun, Riva Lehrer, Wendy Red Star, Leo Selvaggio and others. Hope to see you
there! If you are out west, my work is on view Collecting Digital Art: Highlights + New Acquisitions from the Thoma Foundation (Santa Fe, NM) along with works by Lynn Hershman Leeson, Eduardo Kac, Steina Vasulka, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Vera Molnar, Beryl Korot, Brigitte Kowanz, Daniel Rozin, and Guillermo Galindo. Selected facial peel and computerized embroidery sculptures from the Trousseau series are currently on view in Reading Material in Whitewater, WI. There are two new additions to the Recursive Expressions series which was recently acquired by the NYU Langone Art Collection. Finally, I'm thrilled to be a part of the 2018 Harvestworks digital media art residency program here in New York City
where I'll continue work on a series of biosensor actuated sculptures. Get in touch for more information or to schedule a studio visit. ~Laura
