Dear colleagues and friends,
welcome to the AEC August Newsletter! I hope you have had a nice summer and can look forward to the new academic year with renewed energy and optimism. I also hope you will find some inspiring reading in this Newsletter, such as mdw's competition for new hybrid concert formats or the generous video material made available from the daily life and work at the Sibelius Academy.

If the Covid situation allows, the AEC Council will meet in Prague in early September. This will be our first physical meeting since the lockdown last year. The Pandemic has been a catalyst for increased digitisation in HME, both as a useful tool in learning and teaching and for reducing some of our extensive travel activity in higher music education. At the same time, the personal meetings and on-site music experiences will continue to be fundamental in our work.

Eirik Birkeland
AEC President

A new academic year on the doorstep
