Top Shelf Productions

Eisners Season is Here!

Congratulations to Ashes cartoonist Álvaro Ortiz and translator Eva Ibarzabal for their nominations in the categories of Best Graphic Album (New) and Best US Edition of International Material. We also send our congratulations to longtime friend and colleague Eddie Campbell (From Hell, The Second Fake Death of Eddie Campbell), who is a candidate for the Eisner Hall of Fame in 2024.

It's because of you we find ourselves in this year's incredible lineup of Eisner Award nominees. No matter how long I work in this industry, it is a thrill and an honor seeing Top Shelf Productions titles appear among the list of nominees. None of this would be possible without the support of our readers, our retail partners, librarians, or our stellar creators.

Thank you. We'll see you in San Diego!

2024 Eisner Award Nominee: Ashes by Álvaro Ortiz (Translated by Eva Ibarazabal)

It's the mother of all road trips for these three old friends!

Polly, Moho and Piter haven’t seen each other in years. Now they’ve piled into a car for the long journey to a mysterious cross marked on a map. All their old personality quirks and conflicts are resurrected with new wrinkles, as this surreal reunion gets underway. Up ahead are car chases, alcohol, roadside motels, banjo-playing thugs, a ship graveyard, violence, sensual tension, and of course a monkey!

Praise for Ashes:

"Subtle, lyrical, friendly and funny... An adventure paced like a madcap movie plot, with underlying minor chords."- Library Journal

2024 Eisner Awards Hall of Fame Nominee: Eddie Campbell

Celebrated graphic novelist and artist Eddie Campbell started calling his hand-stapled comics "small press" in 1981 when everybody else was saying "alternative," "underground," and "zines." He takes some pleasure in seeing that term has stuck.

A long time member of the Top Shelf family, Campbell is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Alan Moore, including the legendary From Hell. His autobiographical concotions form his favorite strain of his own work, as shown in The Fate of the Artist/The Second Fake Death of Eddie Campbell. His body of work includes a number of nonfiction graphic novels, including a thorough investigation of the origins of the comic strip in The Goat Getters (IDW).
