In Part 1, I gave IoT technologies a B-. In Part 2, we further explore why they deserve this grade while also remaining upbeat about the future. IoT technologies are generally in a state of early adolescence: They preview huge potential but face growing pains for now. To accelerate adoption, IoT must still overcome multiple barriers, including complexity, interoperability, and standards. Meanwhile, advances in areas such as big data analytics
and blockchain will expand IoT markets and add new use cases. You can read my view on industry’s role to fulfill the promise of IoT and resolve its current challenges in, “Another Brick in the Wall: Barriers to IoT Adoption.” Our next issue will focus on, “Security: IoT’s Biggest Challenge.”
In Other Words
Two particular technologies—big data analytics and blockchain—are evolving at IoT-like speed and may carve out new frontiers of value. How effectively can analytics turn data into ROI? Will blockchain do for IoT what it’s doing for Bitcoin? Two industry experts weigh in with their opinions. –MK What do you think?
These three reports underscore IoT’s massive complexity, fragmented development of key technologies, and their burgeoning impact on enterprise-wide systems. Harmonic convergence will take time, but it can be accomplished if the IoT industry and end users continue to co-commit to their partnership in furthering IoT technologies and architectures on all fronts. –MK

Don’t sit back and wait for the IoT market to mature. That’s the overriding message in the news flashes below. From analytics deployments and blockhchain standards to IoT platforms, industry leaders are increasingly engaged on the IoT front lines. Only active players will reap the full rewards of IoT today and tomorrow. –MK What do you think?
