Celebrating Homeownership

Celebrating Homeownership Across Alaska
By Jan Miyagishima, Director, Mortgage Operations

For many Alaskans, the dream of homeownership has experienced its share of challenges throughout the past couple of years.

The COVID-19 pandemic created financial hardships for both established and potential homeowners. At the same time, a low volume of available houses and high demand created a boom in the housing market that drove costs up. When interest rates began to rise, the expense of buying a home increased further.

Our mission at Alaska Housing is to provide Alaskans with access to safe, quality, affordable housing. That’s why we have worked with partners across the state to ensure Alaska residents have as many options as possible for homeownership.

Alaska Housing has mortgage options designed specifically for Alaskans. We provide homebuyer education classes that help Alaska residents better understand the homebuying process. We have developed relationships with lenders who prioritize finding the right housing loan for Alaskans.

For many people, owning a home is realizing a dream. Alaska Housing remains committed to ensuring people across the state have opportunities for homeownership, and those opportunities are within reach.
