BFI and BBC Four have announced a new partnership to fund 12 short films from emerging UK animators; the BBC National Short Story Award with Cambridge University is open for submissions; the UK/Germany 2018 Affiliate programme is looking for events planned by UK-based organisations or individuals; craft and textiles curators and collectors based in Myanmar, Malaysia and Thailand are invited to apply for the Crafting Futures UK Study Tour; and Arts Council Wales and British Council are commissioning research to map Creative Hubs across Wales.

 
 

#FiveFilms4Freedom 2018

British Council is partnering with BFI Flare: London LGBTQ+ Film Festival for a fourth edition of #FiveFilms4Freedom. From 21 March to 1 April five LGBTQ+ themed short films will be made available for the world to watch in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities in countries where freedom and equal rights are limited.

Brit Awards 2018

At the 38th edition of the Brits, the UK’s biggest annual pop music awards, two of the country’s most exciting breakthrough artists scooped the top prizes. British-Kosovan pop singer Dua Lipa took home two awards, but grime artist Stormzy stole the show winning Best British Male and beating Ed Sheeran to win the prestigious Best British Album award for Gang Signs & Prayer.

Venice Fellowship Exhibition

The Venice Fellowship offers students, graduates and researchers the opportunity to spend time in Venice, invigilating the British Pavilion exhibition and conducting independent research. A selection of the work created by 2017's fellows – including sculpture, print and film – is on show in this pop-up exhibition in London, which runs until 4 March.

2018 BAFTA winners

The 71st British Academy Film Awards were held on Sunday at the Royal Albert Hall in London to honour the best national and foreign films of 2017.
