A Note from Aad: STEP

I’m pleased to report that the District interviews for the long term exchange program went very well. It’s great to meet the new students. We are now hard at work to solidify placements in the different countries and by late February/early March, notifications will go out.

I’m writing to you now about the Short Term Exchange Program (STEP). We have interest from Austria, Belgium, Italy, Finland, Germany, Hungary and Scotland. This program carries NO COST to your club. It provides a family-to-family exchange with one student spending 3-4 weeks in the country of choice and then returning with a student from the family that he/she stayed with to have 3-4 weeks together here.

A number of you have already communicated interest in Short Term YE, and we are now moving forward with final recruitment and interview processes.

For more information on the Short Term Exchange Program, please visit the 7090 Youth Exchange website and the application can be found HERE .

Applications for the STEP program are due by February 1st and interviews of club candidates will take place on Saturday, February 7.

Five Months in Paraguay

Submitted by Rose Reimers

Yesterday was my five months in Paraguay and I don't want it to be over. It's all moving so fast and I've had so many new exciting experiences and met so many new people.

I have experienced a Christmas and New Year here and neither felt like anything I was used to. First of all, it was hot as hell and I spent all of Christmas day by the pool and Christmas eve eating and listening to people do spanish karaoke. And when 12:00 on Christmas day struck, everyone went around hugging each other and outside, you could hear fireworks being set off. Unlike the states, you can buy all sorts of fireworks on the streets and kids set them off in the streets. Unfortunately, I did not set any off myself.

Things have picked up pace since 2015 began. I have been doing a lot of different things and meeting a lot of new people. The weather has been unbelievably hot. Every day in the high 90s and a few times it has gotten up to 113. A lot of the times are just spent inside where there is air conditioning.

My five month was a good relaxing day. I went to the "The Veranda" which has a pool and a water slide and is sort of raised up so that you can look over the river Paraguay. We spent the day there by the pool drinking terere then looking at the sun dip below the horizon.
