Ways to Consolidate Students' Learning

Consolidation is a stage where new material is reviewed and learning is reinforced. Students use this consolidation time to summarise, make connections, form relationships, remember ideas, and build on understanding. Explore the consolidation resources below...

Active Retrieval Practice Techniques

English teacher, Clare Madden, has created a sample  9 week consolidation plan for Junior Cycle English with suggestions of retrieval practice techniques and a spaced practice timetable.

Clare has also shared sample character maps, plot organisers, and knowledge organisers for the LC English Prescribed Text;

Summarising with Revision Booklets and Notes

Watching Videos

UCD Maths Support Centre created 235 videos for higher and ordinary level mathematics students.

Scoilnet has also curated a Specified Practical Activity page featuring highly recommended videos for Ag Science.

RTÉ Learn has recently released video tutorial videos and exam tips for specific Leaving Certificate subjects.

Interacting with Animations

GeoGebra is a simple but powerful tool which can be used by students to reinforce maths concepts and to check solutions.

The PDST Post-Primary Maths team developed GeoGebra files for all Junior Cycle and Leaving Cerificate Maths strands. The most viewed GeoGebra files on Scoilnet each year are the constructions and theorems GeoGebra files.
