Mental Health Week is all about promoting your services and increasing public awareness about mental health. This is your week, so make an effort to be part of it. It only comes around once a year, so we'd love you to make it count this October.

Dr Simon Duffy presents

WAAMH, with the support of the Mental Health Commission, brings you the internationally renowned social innovator, Dr Simon Duffy, to speak at two exclusive presentations in Perth. These presentations are targeted at those who are in senior leadership positions in the Mental Health sector.

Presentation1 - Outcomes, Citizenship and Social Inclusion
3 Oct, 8:30am - 12:30pm

In this presentation Simon Duffy will set out his thinking on service delivery, personalisation and methods for engaging and supporting peer workers.

Presentation 2 - Innovations in Mental Health Practice
7 Oct, 1pm - 4:30pm

In this presentation Simon Duffy will set out his thinking on citizenship, real wealth and resilience and explore some of the deeper questions about the how and why of these concepts.

Registrations are essential and places are strictly limited so please register your intent to attend early, to avoid disappointment. Please RSVP no later than Friday 27 Sept to training@waamh.org.au

Turn Blue 4 a Day in the Murray Street Mall

During Turn Blue 4 a Day on October 10, there will be table space for displaying resources and an opportunity to assist with currently planned activities.

Currently the range of planned activities are:
•   Spirit of the Streets Choir
•   Resources and pamphlets available
•   Mix 94.5 will be there
•   Free blue balloons will be handed out

The aims of the day are:
•   To reduce stigma around mental illness
•   Raise awareness of mental illness as a health problem
•   Promote available services that people may not be aware of
•   To involve members of the public, shoppers and retailers in a non-threatening, local, enjoyable and interactive awareness raising exercise.

Using Medication Wisely

The Richmond Fellowship of WA is holding a forum on the correct use of medication.

In celebration of 2013 Mental Health Week, Richmond Fellowship WA presents the world renowned John Watkins in a one day seminar event on “Using Medication Wisely”.
    
Commencing immediately after the Mental Health Good Outcomes Awards Breakfast, this special event brings together local specialists to discuss the important issue of using medication in response to mental ill health.
    
John Watkins is an Australian and an internationally recognised authority on schizophrenia from a broader than medical model perspective.   He is the author of recognizable titles such as:
    • Living With Schizophrenia (1996)
    • Healing Schizophrenia: Using Medication Wisely (2006)
    • Hearing Voices: A Common Human Experience (1998; revised 2008)
    • Unshrinking Psychosis: Understanding and Healing the Wounded Soul (2010)
