Burt’s Bees Sunscreen

Sunscreen

If your Independence Day celebration involves some outdoor recreation, but you’d prefer to keep the baking, frying and grilling to your feast, lather on some Burt’s Bees all natural sunscreen. Burt’s provides protection from the sun’s harmful rays naturally. Instead of using chemicals like octinoxate and oxybenzone found in other sunscreens, Burt’s uses titanium dioxide, a naturally-occurring mineral, that creates a micro-fine barrier on your skin to reflect the sun's harmful rays.

Fourth of July Festivities

We’re all about connecting with our guests and our communities. One of the ways we like best is partnering up with our local communities in support of 4th of July celebrations. Because we’re devoted to families and the neighborhoods surrounding our stores, we’re honored to have the opportunity to help make Independence Day fun and meaningful for everyone. This year we’re proud to be major sponsors of city-wide 4th of July festivities in Woodland, Roseville, Davis, Elk Grove, and El Dorado Hills.

July 4th Eats

Not sure what’s better – the food or the fireworks, but the 4th is certainly an eater’s delight. From backyard BBQs to pool parties, July 4th brings out some of summer’s delicious and healthful offerings. Here’s the rundown on a few 4th favorites.

  • Beer: Thanks to the grains like wheat and hops used in beer making, phytonutrients called flavonoids (a bit similar to what’s in red wine) end up in the bottle. According to research, these compounds boost heart health. Studies also show that moderate drinking (1 to 2 12-oz cans or bottles per day) may slow aging thanks to the flavonoids.
  • BBQ Beans: These wonders are loaded with everything when it comes to good health. Besides being a good source of protein, beans supply water-soluble fiber, the type that helps you feel full and regulates normal blood sugar levels to ward off diabetes. Go for seconds on the beans!
  • Corn: A one cup serving (or about 1½ ears of corn) supplies 20% of your fiber needs, energizing carbohydrates and a wealth of other nutrients, notably folate, a B-vitamin that is crucial for a healthy pregnancy. Corn also supplies beta-cryptoxanthin, an orange-red carotenoid that may protect against lung and other types of cancer.
  • Watermelon: A favorite at picnics and backyard gatherings, watermelon supplies a wide array of vital nutrients, such as vitamin C, potassium and fiber. Watermelon also helps hydrate you during these warm summer days since every bite is more than 80% water.
