Only 11 days until the exciting start to TASA 2016. There will be a printed copy of the Conference Handbook in the satchels. You can read ahead, though, by accessing the Conference Program, in full, or the Program at a Glance and the Concurrent Program separately. If you happen to have already downloaded a copy from our website, please note that changes were made to the Concurrent Sessions this week . Those changes are listed on an Addendum Sheet, which can be accessed here. 

Employment Opportunities

The University of New England currently has two great sociology employment opportunities available: 

1. Senior Lecturer in Sociology (Level C)
2. Lecturer in Sociology (Level B)

The Discipline of Sociology at UNE seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Sociology, and a Lecturer in Sociology, who will both teach and have a research and publication record in one or more of the following areas: Social Research Methods (especially mixed methods); Social Policy; Cultural Sociology, as well as other substantive disciplinary areas in Sociology, especially Family and Childhood; Media and Consumption; Youth Studies; Development and/or Environmental Studies. The Senior Lecturer position will also be expected to take on leadership roles within the School as required.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Jonathan Magee, Ramon Spaaij and Ruth Jeanes, whose article “It's recovery United for me”: Promises and pitfalls of football as part of mental health recovery” won the 2016 SSJ Outstanding Article Award from the North American Association for the Sociology of Sport.

Congratulations to Keith Noble. Keith's PhD thesis "Resilience: A Lived Experience" has been accepted by James Cook University. This was a social science consideration of individual farmer resilience, set in the context of Australia's renewed national focus on northern development, as seen from the perspective of those who have lived the experience.

Congratulations to Sheena Mackie, an undergraduate student member majoring in sociology. Sheena had her abstract - The Global Response to Climate Change Requires a New Paradigm - accepted for The Australasian Conference of Undergraduate Research. Sheena plans to start an undergraduate student sociology blog next year.

CHASS

CHASS are looking for enthusiastic and proactive Board Members who can help support the conceptualisation and organisation of an annual event for CHASS, among other commitments. Their Board Members are involved in strategic planning, overseeing CHASS's key directions and activities, and ensuring compliance with constitutional and other statutory requirements. A list of current Board members is available here.

Usually, the newsletter is disseminated every Thursday morning.
