St. Ambrose University

April 2024

The academic year has come to a close with 685 students receiving their diplomas and becoming St. Ambrose University alumni. For many of those students, that diploma would not have been possible without your support. An editorial published in the Quad City Times stated “today’s class is the latest in St. Ambrose gifts that keep on giving to our community.” Your leadership giving impacts the lives of our students, sustains the health of the University, and enriches the lives of others in our community and beyond.

Ambrose Hall Cornerstone

An element of the current renovation to Ambrose Hall includes replacing the deteriorating sandstone used on the front of the building. When the original cornerstone was set, a time capsule was placed inside. At a ceremony on May 23, Father George McDaniel had the honor of opening the 128-year-old copper box which held the first and second prospectuses of the institution, copies of then current editions of Catholic and Davenport newspapers and a copy of the 1885 dedication program.  At that dedication ceremony it was said, “the institution whose cornerstone has been laid here today is intended to educate, not the head apart from the heart, but the head and the heart together.” That statement will still ring true when the new cornerstone is laid later this year.

The Beehive is Back

The Bookstore will be moving from its current location on Harrison Street to the Rogalski Center, where it will take over the current Gottlieb Lounge and the Game Room.  As the campus will be losing a lounge area and game room in the Rogalski Center, these spaces will be moved to a renovated Beehive area.  In addition, the coffee shop will also be moving to this space. Improvements will include all new carpet, paint and furniture.  The furniture will be a mix of booths, tables and chairs and soft seating.  The current curved staircase and sunken seating area will be removed and a modern looking staircase added.  This will open up the space and make it more useable.  Renovation is expected to start mid-May and be completed in August.
