Tasting Notes:  Elderton Barossa Shiraz wine is a rich, full-bodied, classic Shiraz. It’s dark purple in colour with fine aromas of black forest fruits and notes of cocoa and spice. The palate has flavours of red berries and plums that permeate throughout the wine with hints of chocolate and a strong spice finish.

Enjoy With:  Meaty stew, sharp cheddar or smoked brisket.

Style:  Full-bodied and smooth red wine.

Terroir/Region:  The grapes for this wine come from the best parcels from three Elderton estate vineyards - Nuriootpa, Greenock and Craneford. The three vineyards offer distinct, different terroirs with unique soil compositions and climates. Alluvial river silt soil, mineral-rich rocky soils and ironstone-rich soils from altitudes varying from 275m to 425m are all utilized.

Producer:  Elderton’s Nuriootpa vineyard dates back to 1894 when it was initially planted by German settlers, but was purchased in 1916 by Samuel Elderton Tolley. The vineyard became derelict in the mid-seventies and was purchased by the current owner, the Ashmead family, who has since expanded into different sub-appellations in the Barossa Valley. From the beginning, Elderton has strived to create rich, vibrant and unique wines that show off the best of Australia’s Barossa Valley.

Availability:  Elderton Barossa Shiraz is officially released tomorrow, December 9, in LCBO Vintages but some stores already have it on shelf.  Look for it in the Australian section.
