Fall Brings Rent and Mortgage Opportunities
By Stacy Barnes, Director, Governmental Relations & Public Affairs Are you ready for winter? Is your home? At Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, we have energy efficiency programs to help you prepare for the colder months ahead. Our Energy Savings Tips for Alaska booklet is a great place to start! Keeping with our mission of providing Alaskans access to safe,
quality and affordable housing, we are expanding our lending capabilities in the City of North Pole, Alaska’s only designated Military Facility Zone. Multiple studies have shown that the existing area's residential housing is insufficient to meet the needs of incoming military personnel, their families and support staff. Our Military Facility Zone Loan is an important tool for builders and investors to respond to the community need. As the snow begins to fall, many residents statewide are in need of housing assistance due to the impacts generated by the COVID-19
pandemic. This Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, is the last day to apply for Alaska Housing Rent Relief. Alaskans who are currently participating in the program are not eligible for overlapping assistance but all renters, including those who may be experiencing housing insecurity for the first time, live in an overcrowded household or feel unsafe at home are encouraged to check their eligibility and apply
immediately. Applicants who meet program requirements may receive up to three months of federally funded rent and utility assistance that will be paid to their landlord or utility company.
