There are skeletons, ghosts, zombies and a menagerie of other monsters wandering around the city which can only mean one thing: it’s Halloween! That means it’s time for scary movies, haunted houses, decorations and, of course, candy. For adults, nothing complements that Halloween stockpile like Sue-Ann Staff’s Black O’Noir Baco Noir. This spooky, spirited season is a perfect time to enjoy a wine as black as a cat, as memorable as trick-or-treating, and as delicious as blood to a vampire.
Tasting Notes: Sue-Ann Staff Black O’Noir is fruity, juicy and hearty. This unoaked Baco Noir is full of stewed blueberry and jammy tomato characters on the nose and palate with a wisp of subtle sweetness which contributes to its round easy style. The lively red berry flavours are complemented by a subtle hint of black pepper on the finish.
Enjoy With: Pasta with sausages, mushrooms and dishes with tomato sauce.
Style: Medium-bodied, fruity dark red wine.
Terroir/Region: This crop was harvested exclusively from the estate vineyard in Jordan, Ontario, sub-appellation Twenty Mile Bench. The 16 year-old vines grow on thin clay soils with escarpment limestone rock beneath. The sheltered north-facing slopes and the air circulation from Lake Ontario provide for year-round temperature moderation, setting up an ideal growing season for quality grapes.
Producer: Sue-Ann Staff Estate Winery is located on the Staff family’s 200 year-old estate in Jordan, Ontario and produces high quality VQA wines from grapes grown on Niagara Escarpment properties. Sue-Ann Staff, the proprietor and winemaker of the estate, delivers wines that are bold with a delicate touch and an emphasis on quality.
