Wine of the Weekend

Lacour Tourny Bordeaux AOC 2018

We often forget that the world’s great wine regions are built on affordable, everyday wines, not their most famous labels. The Napa Valley is California’s most famous wine region, but it only represents 4% of the roughly 86 million bottles of wine California produces every year. The top wines of Bordeaux come from 5 Premier Cru ranked châteaux, but they only represent about 0.1% of the 700 million bottles of Bordeaux made each year. In contrast, most Bordeaux wines are great values such as this week’s selection, Lacour Tourny Bordeaux.

Tasting Notes: At 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, Lacour Tourny is a dry, full-bodied, juicy wine. Brimming with red and black berry notes, oak spices, and boasting a solid structure of acidity and tannin, this wine punches far above its weight.

Enjoy With: Roast lamb, prime rib or sirloin steak, game meats (venison or boar), mushroom dishes or aged cheeses.

Style: A full-bodied, fruity red wine.

Terroir/Region: The Bordeaux region is centred around the Gironde estuary, with the left (southern) bank being the home of some of the most prized Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the world, and the right (northern) bank being home to some of the most prized Merlot vineyards in the world.

Producer: The team at Lacour Tourny source the finest grapes from the region, focusing on the right bank of Bordeaux. After all, the wine is mostly Merlot and that’s where the best comes from! Through rigorous searching and established relationships with growers, it is able to bottle this cheerful red at a great price.

Availability: Lacour Tourny Bordeaux red is available online and in the France section of your local LCBO. It may just become your go-to weeknight wine!
