It is to encourage people to switch off for one hour, to contemplate our impact on our planet and to commit to investing in its future. If only we could borrow some of the amazing abilities marine organisms have, such as producing our own light. This ability is called bioluminescence. Read more.

Un-happy feet get treated

Un-happy feet get treated

Teddy the rockhopper penguin came to the Aquarium in 1999. His feet had been bound together for a long time while being held on a fishing vessel. As a result, he limps and suffers from arthritis. To ease the pressure on his feet, we keep a very close eye on his weight, he is carried between the penguin areas and we encourage him to swim as much as possible (the cold water seems to relieve the swelling.) Recently, he underwent acupuncture therapy.
See photos from his treatment here.

Daniël le Roux’s visit to the Aquarium

Daniël le Roux’s visit to the Aquarium

On February 1, the Two Oceans Aquarium hosted a very special little boy. Daniël le Roux turned three and had a special birthday visit to the Aquarium. Daniël suffers from Leigh’s disease and has been in the ICU facility at Cape Gate Medi-Clinic since October 2012. Daniël is fascinated by fish, according to his mother. During his visit he was treated to underwater wonders, shiny, shimmering fish, and lots and lots of laughter. See photos from his visit here.
